Day by day
Routes remain flexible around the season, wind, group pace and desert conditions.
Day 1
Depart in the morning from Marrakech or Ouarzazate toward M’Hamid El Ghizlane. Depending on the route and timing, possible stops include an Atlas village, Aït Ben Haddou and viewpoints along the Draa Valley oasis before reaching the Sahara Caravan accommodation.
Overnight: Sahara Caravan accommodation near M’Hamid El Ghizlane.
Day 2
Begin walking through the palm oasis, with views of palm groves, farming areas and the first desert landscapes. A short visit to a local kasbah may be possible. Lunch is taken near the end of the oasis where the palm trees meet the Sahara, followed by a walk through the old dry and salty Draa Valley. Cross varied terrain before reaching the Sidi Naji region, where dunes, plateaus and tamarisk trees shape the campsite.
Overnight: Desert camp around the Sidi Naji region.
Day 3
Travel with the camel caravan toward Erg Zahar, one of the more remote dune areas of the M’Hamid desert. Lunch is prepared somewhere along the route beneath a tamarisk tree before the trek continues across the plateau. Camp is set among the large dunes, with time to walk toward the higher dunes and take in the surrounding views.
Overnight: Desert camp among the Erg Zahar dunes.
Day 4
Leave Erg Zahar and cross the Air Ounir dune area through landscapes connected to the Draa Valley and the Bani Mountains. The route continues toward the valley’s eastern side, with lunch near a small rocky hill surrounded by open desert. Walking resumes through increasingly spacious terrain before reaching the Lbour area in time for the broad horizon and sunset.
Overnight: Desert camp in the open Lbour area near Krayaat Jmal.
Day 5
After breakfast, begin the return toward M’Hamid El Ghizlane. Continue toward Marrakech or Ouarzazate later in the day.
