Day by day
Routes remain flexible around the season, wind, group pace and desert conditions.
Day 1
Depart in the morning from Marrakech or Ouarzazate for M’Hamid El Ghizlane at the gates of the desert. Depending on the route and timing, possible stops include an Atlas village, Aït Ben Haddou near Ouarzazate, and viewpoints or oases along the Draa Valley.
Overnight: Guesthouse or desert camp near M’Hamid El Ghizlane.
Day 2
The team prepares the camels, loads the luggage and begins the trek through the M’Hamid oasis and palm grove. The route continues across desert landscapes and the old Draa Valley, with tea and lunch taken in the shade of tamarisk trees when suitable. Palm groves, dry valley terrain, tamarisk and dunes lead toward the Sidi Naji region, where camp is set near the dunes.
Overnight: Tent near the dunes, or beneath the stars when conditions allow.
Day 3
Travel deeper into the desert toward Erg Zahar through dunes, plateaus and a vast dried lake. Lunch may be taken beneath a tamarisk tree along the route before the caravan continues to the large remote dunes. After camp is prepared among the dunes, walk toward the higher dune around sunset for a broad view across Erg Zahar and its changing colours.
Overnight: Desert camp among the Erg Zahar dunes.
Day 4
After breakfast, begin the return toward M’Hamid El Ghizlane. From the desert gateway, continue onward toward Marrakech or Ouarzazate, arriving later in the day.
